We Can Make a Difference!

Changing the World, A Little Bit at a Time..,

Today we borrowed a lesson from Mme Carter, as a follow-up to Christopher Mark D'souza's visit on Friday.  Students eagerly shared Mr. D'souza's message with me.

First, we should be proud of ourselves and celebrate our differences.  This will build our self-esteem, and in turn make us happier, more resilient individuals.

We had a wonderful conversation about traditions, culture, ancestry, skills etc that we are proud of.  Students then reflected on what they were proud of, they wrote their reflection on a sticky note to share with the group.  This was a very feel good activity.

Afterwards, students explained the concept of Contagious Karma.  Do onto to others, and they will do onto to you.  We can create positive energy, and spread this energy by our deeds.  When we do good for others, it comes back to us.  This circle of positive energy grows, and makes the world a better place, at the same time as increasing our personal happiness.  Students brainstormed ordinary deeds that we could do on a daily basis to spread positive energy.

Finally, at our staff meeting,McHardy shared a very moving video that will hopefully impact us enough to act. PLEASE TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO VIEW THIS SHORT VIDEO.

For the first time in North American history, children are expected to die, on average, five years younger than their parents.  PLEASE, LETS WORK TOGETHER TO REVERSE THIS SAD AND SCARY REALITY.  Let's get active!  Let's encourage our children to engage in daily, physical activity.  LETS GIVE THEM FIVE MORE YEARS.  Together, we can make a difference and beat the statistics.
