In math, we have our new Number Sense and Numeration unit. Our focus this week is multi-digit multiplication! Today we worked on multiplying 2-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers. The strategy we used was breaking numbers apart.
Breaking numbers apart: 6 x 12
6 x 10 = 60
6 x 2 = 12
60 + 12 = 72
This can also be done with 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication:
Breaking numbers apart: 16 x 12
10 x 12 = 120 10 6
6 x 12 = 72
120 + 72 = 192
