Back to the Grind!

Well, we are back at it!  Everyone seemed happy, well rested, and ready to learn today!  We began our day by sharing our March Break with a partner, en français!  Next, we jumped right back into routines and began preparing for our next dictée - La Pâques!  Here are the words of the week:

In math, we have our new Number Sense and Numeration unit.  Our focus this week is multi-digit multiplication! Today we worked on multiplying 2-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers.  The strategy we used was breaking numbers apart.

Breaking numbers apart: 6 x 12
6 x 10 = 60
6 x  2 =  12
60 + 12 = 72

This can also be done with 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication:

Breaking numbers apart: 16 x 12
10 x 12 = 120 10 6
6 x 12 = 72
120 + 72 = 192

Got it!

We can multiply!
Later in the afternoon, we moved Tea Time to Monday so we can begin our Guided Reading Centers without interruption tomorrow.  We enjoyed a nice fruity tea that Ethan brought in to share with us.

After Tea Time, students prepared for home before heading to gym.

Tomorrow, we look forward to our guest speaker!

P.S.  Please take time to vote for Nadine's artwork.
