STUDENT WRITING...To share a few...

The Toboggan

Do  you ever feel like that five minutes you just waited was really an hour? That happened to me when my cousin and I were sitting in the shiny green car of the North Dakota State Fair's most popular ride-The Toboggan. Even before we got on, the ride was a thrill. The second that my cousin Kadence and I stepped into the car, my stomach flip-flopped in suspense.

I leaned forward and looked out the window. I saw the line of people waiting to go on the ride, most with bored looks on their faces, but others, excitement.. Beyond that were the games booths, colorful prizes hanging from the roofs of each and every one, and I had won a particularly soft giraffe a few days ago.My little cousin Bree was standing with my Auntie Tami and Uncle Terry beside the balloon darts booth, waving. A smile slowly crept onto my face.I turned towards the other window and saw Kadence, looking nervous. I took a deep breath and leaned back, smelling the corn dogs and pizza and all other food smells, and my stomach growled, the sounds of laughter and machinery ringing through my ears.

Suddenly, we pulled forward as the car in front of us moved up, up, up, the tube until we couldn’t see them any more. Even though we hadn’t eaten anything since lunch, my stomach felt full. Of butterflies, just waiting to come out!!! I looked over at Kadence and smiled, her returning the favor. As quick as lightning, we started talking again. Now, I’m your regular roller coaster expert, when Kadence is a bit of a ‘fraidy cat, so I knew she was just trying to calm her nerves. We had always gotten along with only something like two or three fights, so both of us were in pretty good moods.

We were just starting to complain about the pool hours at the hotel when we started to move just like the other three hundred  cars, slowly going up the red, blue, and white metal tube, the only light coming from the top. On this particular rollercoaster, you sat in the car with your feet stuck in front of you, not raised on a seat but sitting on the ground, so our feet were stuck straight up in the air while going up the pipe. The sun was bright and hurt my eyes,(Now I  know why Kadence wore sunglasses!) but when we got to the top it was worth it, because we could see the whole fair glimmering in the afternoon sun, shining like a thousand little diamonds, everything from the ferris wheel to the “Starship” looked like something shiny and new, even though I knew they were at least all a year old or more. I felt that we were truly the top of the world, that nothing could stop our shiny green roller coaster car.

I looked over at Kadence and said”PLEASE don’t scream  to loud.”
She laughed and then responded “Sure.” By then, we had almost finished the tube spiral, and were one little swirl away from the big drop.
“WHEEEEEEE!!!!!!”  we screamed, going quicker than we had ever gone before on any other North Dakota State Fair ride. We turned suddenly, and continued going up and down and swirling around near the bottom of the big pipe .When we got off, our heads were spinning in dizziness.

I first thought that the Toboggan was just there to make money for the fair, and I’d bet other people willtoo.  but I now know .that it was made to bring people together, and to let those people have fun. If someone were to not know what the Toboggan was, what it really truly was, are they in for a TReat!

No Helmet!

No Helmet:  When I was 7 years old Eddie bush ice rink seemed like my very  Special place. It was very cold but  I was used to that . I  was clipping up my helmet and lacing up my skates I could hear nothing it was dead calm. Nothing moved .My teeth chattered .I was the only person there I thought .But suddenly I heard footsteps coming toward me . Than I heard a high pitched voice say “should I tell her now or just  tell her parents ?’’ than I heard just tell her now .Since I was the only person because I was early and my daddy was in the car on a phone call made me wonder, is that her me ? I really wanted to know so I crept near the door and silently peeked through the crack in the door and I saw two coaches walking toward change room three which just happened to be the change room. So I dashed back to my bag and quickly untied my skates so it looked like I was just sitting there tying them up . I felt  calm again . Suddenly my coach Janet walked into the room . Something suddenly dashed through my head “but there were two” Than Janet started to talk to me she said “Eva” than she paused . Now I knew that that “her” was me ! Than Janet started to talk again “you have passed a level in your skating that you now get to move up to intermediate with the big girls! and that means that you don't have to wear a helmet anymore! My cheeks turned pink my eyes suddenly felt like a river was overflowing my eyes. I could not help but to give a soft scream . Than I ran to Janet and wrapped my arms around her tight .The goal that I had wanted to accomplish that year was was to move up to intermediate and to not have to wear a helmet It felt so amazing to that I had already accomplished one of my goals only three weeks into the season . As excitement rushed out of my face I started to feel back to normal again . But I had a funny feeling about not wearing a helmet . The feeling made my tummy sink it felt like it was falling down a hole . Goose bumps grew on my skin like little hills . About fifteen minutes later I was on the ice my head felt so light and so free it was like it just broke out of jail it was amazing I was kind of scared  to do jumps but when I tried a spin my hair flew back and it was waving and twirling  around.I really excited that i was a intermediate I felt like I was a big girl now and that I felt like one of those professionals that you watch on TV I was really happy I  just wanted to explode with happiness It was my most memorable night ever at the rink.

So in conclusion when you set your mind to something tell yourself you can do it .If you believe in yourself you can accomplish anything that you dream of .

The best pickup ever

I’ll trade you my candy hearts for your lollypop” my brother said “no way” I said with a look on my face. It was after school and I was waiting for my mom at the pick up  place.it was warm and  I was excited I didn't know I was excited I just was!

Just as I thought the day couldn't get any better I was wrong. My mom came racing around the corner . “She's always late”My brother said snarling .She came around the corner and she stopped at a screech .After that I ran up to the car In a hurry and swung open the door.

I heard a little Yelp,it was a faint yelp at first I thought it was my little brother being annoying self but  It wasn't. Then I smelt something, something unusual  It wasn't a bad smell it was just a smell. Then I leaned over the seat to put my backpack in the front of the car and then I saw a little dog I was so joyful inside it was so amazing ,anyway my little dog  had jet black hair and if you looked closely you could see little blue eyes and she was Sitting  baby carrier .I couldn't get over how cute she was .

We had already chosen her name my mom picked it out, her name was Tally.Anyway my brother Said “ Weren't we supposed to get her on the weekend“Yes but I thought it would be a good valentines present” My mom said  “it is”I said With a grin.O did I mention it is Valentin’s.

anyway We were already off school property and driving down my street.  We finally got home ,I ran The front of the car  got  Tally in my arms And went up the stairs.I couldn't believe it I had a dog. I thought I was the happiest girl alive. Now I know why the say a dog is a mans best friend.

The Best Surprise Ever

“Where  are we going dad?” I asked  as my family and I drove  along the countryside. “Yeah! We’ve been in here forever!” my younger sister Penelope half whined. “It’s a surprise girls”, my mom told us.My sister and I looked at each other  and groaned. we hated surprises. Our shiny red van pulled into a driveway of a  dull, old looking, blue house. “Here we are guys. Get out" l stepped out of the van. The gravel crunched underground my feet. My family and l walked up to the house.

I did not want to go in. My mom knocked on the front door. A tall woman that didn't look much younger than my parents, answered the door. She had long pale blond hair and grey eyes." I'm sure you are here to see the new puppies?" . I was very confused. Puppies? What? The woman let us in.I heard something. “Arf! Arf!”, I shook my head. “ Arf! Arf! Arf!”. Tons of puppies came running in. They were so cute! “Arf! Arf!”,A small blonde pup was scratching at my legs. “Arf!” . I kneeled down. The puppy jumped on me and started to give me warm, soggy’ doggy kisses. “Hey stop that! It tickles!”, I giggled.

I knew this puppy was the one. “Mom, dad! Can we get this one?”. My parents exchanged glances, and then smiled. “Sure”.I squealed with delight. The little blonde puppy wagged its tail. I was so happy I wanted to cry! My sister came to play too. We played with the puppy and let her lick our fingers. “I love you little puppy! I love you, I love you, I do!”, It was true. That puppy had a place in my heart. l knew it from the first moment.       :)

the medal

3, 2, 1 it’s  over we had lost I felt so bad I almost cried. I thought that I let my team down When I missed that shot or when  I didn't pass the ball. then I thought it does not matter it's over  I walked over to my coach kicking  my toes Against the ground .2-1 I whispered to myself  Now I have to wait another year to play soccer again. It took me about 10 seconds to get to my couch but it felt  like 5 minutes. Then when I got to my coach he said you guys played hard but sometimes in life things don't go your way. I knew he was right but it didn't make me feel any better.

But then he said come on the medal ceremony is in 2 minutes Then   I thought could the medal ceremony be for all the teams not just the first place team .so I said does that mean we get a medal he said yes. That made me feel so good I thought I was going to be a pro soccer player one day because this is going to get my first medal ever .So I walked over to my mom and said with excitement and said come on let's go the medal ceremony is soon. Ok she said Then when I got there I was nervous because I had never been on a stage before. After about a minute they called our team up I was so excited and nervous and after are hol team they called my name called my name. When they called my name I felt like I had just won the World Cup I was exploding inside but outside I tried not to cry with joy it was truly amazing it was one of my best experiences of my life I felt so good I thought I was going to die
Everyone was clapping  was happy with a capital H After they said that I had a great season and I was a amazing passer and great shooter  I got my medal so happy I wanted to jump off the stage  And hug my mom. That day I learned something good can come out of something bad.

On the second day of camp,my first time going horse back riding,I walked into the tall green barn.I saw all the tall, big, pretty horses standing in the barn with their equipment on.my heart started pumping faster and faster.my legs were shivering .they started bring out horses one by one ,but there wasn’t one horse that was the size of a normal horse they were all really  big.then befor I new it they brought out my  horse!

My horse seemed really big and it was, but in my mind it was the biggest horse there.Right then and there the horse’s eyes stared into mine and having him look into my eyes like that made me really nervous. My hands were shaking as I grabed the rains.I  took my first  step and I could feel the burning tear run down my sad face.I didn’t make a noise or the horses would get spooked.I found the tag that said the horses name.It said that the horses name is Tango,as Iwas looking at the tag Tango didn't seem very happy and he Naaed at me.That made me jump.so I'm never doing that a ever again. I was getting so close to the horse in front of me I had to do a circle. As I did the circle ,I watched his big heavey feet all the way around the tire. His feet were getting closer and closer to mine.As I was standing in line Wating for one of the barn staff to come and teach us riding lesons, all I could hear in the back ground was other kids crying and alot of horses Naaing.I could also hear high pitech screams and most of the barn staff calling the run away horse.

then when I was just standing in line with my beautiful horse, I saw my cousin’s horse’s hoof high up in the air like it was ready to come full speed crashing down.I told my cousin Kaitlyn to be careful and watch the horses foot. i’m guessing she is death because she wasn’t paying any attention and the horse's foot came down as fast as lightning. The next thing I saw was the big, white horse’s hoof compressing a tone of presser, right onto my cousin's flat foot [well at least now it’s flat].
She screamed as loud as she possibly could and trust me that is really loud!It felt like my eardrums were going to explode, they were on fire.as she tryed to get the horses hoof of her foot,I sreamed to the barn staff so they could help get the horses hoof off of her foot .All of the horses around us got spooked. My cousins nice, white and brown horse was just standing there. It wouldn’t get of Kaitlyn’s foot!As my cousin was  screaming her head of,one of the barn staff came running over to help get the big, heavy, dirty hoof of her foot.Kaitlyn let go of the rains and everything went silent except for one scream.
one of the barn staff yelled because, when Kaitlyn let go of the rains Stormy started to head for the hard, gravel, rocky road.it wasn’t a bisy road so they didn’t have to worie about cars but the horse was still lose.as the barn staff started to slowly head to the road, kaitlyn was siting down on the old, rusty, white fence.i was just about to ask kaitlyn if she was going to be ok,but then all of a suding i hered a big naa in the back ground.it was stormy they cought him and were taking back to the barn.kaitlyn told me that she was never going horse back riding ever agin.but i know thats not true!

me and my poor cousin started to walk through the wet, muddy, thin trail,so we could go see the neurs.half way through the trail,my cousin said that her foot started to ake.so she beged me to give her a piggie back.even though i didn’t want to did anyway only because she just got steped on by a horse.when we got to the neurs,my legs were killing me and my back had this akeing feeling.my cousins foot was ok but her foot had a big brus.

after that me and my cousin started to walk to the cabin.we got up to the cabin and laid on our puffy beds and she said that she would still go horseback riding but she would always stay 10 cm away from the horse's foot and ours and i’m telling you if you want to go horseback riding have your personal space!

THE FIRST GOAL OF THE SEASON

One fall evening I was at a hockey game and I looked onto the ice . The Zamboni Was flooding the ice. He was almost done flooding the ice. I was Feeling like I was going to win the game.I just had a feeling we were going to win.I was so anxious to get on the  ice .

When the ref dropped the puck for the  third faceoff. It was in the first period.I lost the faceoff the other team got it  into our zone.We got the puck back. someone passed the puck to me I was feeling like I was going to go up and shoot.I was skating fast down the ice like as fast as a car .I felt like  I was Flash.I skated up and got to the net.I took a shot It went over the goalie's head and went in. I felt like I was going to burst open. Like everything was going to come out of me. I felt like I was going to scream. Everybody was patting me on the back.  I felt really happy.  I heard a bunch of cheering in the audience.  The score was 1-0 for the home team! Because I just scored!  That was the first goal of the season.
I don’t even remember if we won the game.  I never get the first goal of the season.  It made me want to get even more goals.

      Down the hill
It was my first time tobogganing my brothers and I were zooming down the hill in our back yard at  top speed.Wind blew on my face I did not want to say what I was thinking we were not going to make the jump. And neither would our toboggan.I thought we should've gone some where else but that was that now I just had to prepare for impact.
I saw that the snow was everywhere it seemed endless my brothers and I started discussing how would get hows stuff if one of us did not make it I personally wanted no won to get my stuff  then boom. Are discussion interrupted by us hitting the very badly made jump we flipt high in the air like  a plane about to take off. everything seemed to slow down like a day passed in a minute the cold harsh winter breeze slowly glided by I saw the trees covered in a coat of snow and there icicles reflecting the small amount of sunlight breaking through the clouds till we swiftly collided with the freezing pp--ground I felt colder than the day was. Then for a moment nothing happened I thought I would not make it  suddenly all of us popped out of the snow together in one piece.the opposite of are destroyed torn and bent toboggan that was the most intense ride ever!!!!!!!! I did not want to go down  that hill again
Finally we got up brushed the fluffy white snow of our faces and marched to the top of the hill at our house. we reached the top of the hill within ten minutes and went inside to enjoy our victory.that one thing was amazing before i was scared of going in a sled now i want to do it every day because it is what bring my brothers together in that winter and the rest. from that day on I always tried new things and did my best at everything I tried.
