New Month, New Schedule!

There have been a few changes to your child's schedule.  You can view or print the schedule here. SCHEDULE.

This month in Math, we have been working on Number Sense and Numeration: comparing, ordering, reading, and presenting whole numbers to 100 000, and decimals to the hundredths, as well as writing money amounts to $1000.00.  Students have been provided with some online resources to support their learning, from home.  There are math links provided on the right hand side of this blog that are fun way to reinforce learning.

In French, we have been working on building vocabulary centered around school, classroom, and family.  We have been practising daily conversation, reading aloud, reading and responding with short activities, as well as listening and responding in French.  We are practising how to ask questions to interview a classmate.  We use games and songs to reinforce our learning.  Students have been writing short journal entries with familia,r and newly learned, vocabulary.  They are currently working on two short videos of themselves speaking in French.  Each Monday, students are given new spelling words that serve as a base for upcoming learning activities.  Each Friday, they are given a dictée, where they spell the words in French and give their meaning in English.  Although, we work with our new words at school, students are encouraged to practise using their words at home.  They are also encouraged to practice their conversation questions, short readings, and skits at home.

In English, we are focusing on making connections to texts. In writing, we have been working with strategies to generate ideas for personal narratives.  We are now beginning to aim our mini-lessons on improving the quality of our personal narrative writing.

This term, we will be studying the Heritage and Identity Unit in Social Studies: First Nations and Europeans in New France and Early Canada.

Daily, your child is giving time, and is strongly encouraged, to use his/her agenda.  If he/she is not doing so, then you may want to support the use of this tool from home.

I was very happy to meet so many parents on the Meet the Fleet night.  I look forward to meeting again during Student lead conferences in November.
