We Treated Ourselves to Extra Art Today!

Chalk Pastel Lizards

I know today wasn't an art day, but I was feeling under the weather and I thought I would indulge myself.  I knew my students would enjoyed this little pick me up too.  Some days we do extra math or extra language, so today we slipped in a little extra art from Deep Space Sparkle, without feeling too guilty.

I had wanted to try  a completely different project, but we needed sulphite paper, which we don't have, and my students assured me that regular construction paper would just not do.  So, I guess I will be putting in a rush order for 12  by 18 brown sulphite paper for next week.

Oh, and not to fall completely on the wayside, we spoke French the whole time!  In some circles, this is known as FART (French ART),

AND....TADAH!  HERE ARE THE RESULTS OF ALL THAT CREATIVITY!

Math

Today, in Math, we focused on equivalent fractions again.  We discovered a little patterning trick to help us find equivalent fractions.  Using tiles and tile grid paper, we built fractions in a row, then by adding new rows to our model we built equivalent fractions.  We tracked our results on a chart, after a few models, students were able to see the pattern in the chart and could easily list equivalent fractions without having to build the model, simply by continuing the pattern, (using multiples - or skip counting, as some prefer).  Unfortunately, we were so busy that I forgot to snap some pictures, but if you question your child, he/she will be able to demonstrate his/her strategy to you, hands down!  If you are working from home, here is a related activity from the textbook to help you catch up on missed work.  NELSON MATH

TODAY'S GRADE 8 BUSINESS FAIR WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!  CONGRATULATIONS TO THE GRADE 8 CLASSES, AND THEIR TEACHERS! THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING YOUR CHILD TO SUPPORT THIS ENDEAVOR BY ENSURING THAT THEY HAD A LITTLE POCKET MONEY TO SPEND.

TOMORROW IS OUR VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION ASSEMBLY.  I REALLY HOPE TO SEE MRS. McEDWARDS AND MRS. VANDER MEWRE AT THE ASSEMBLY.  THANK YOU FOR DEDICATING YOUR TIME TO OUR SCHOOL!
