Our Week

This week, we had intended to complete our 5-day Guided Reading cycle on Thursday, but due to bad weather and no buses for two days, we will complete our Guided Reading on Monday.  We continue to enjoy the support of Mrs. Vander merwe, who has joined us on several occasions to lead a small group read and discussion.

Here are a few samples of student responses to this week's reading.

On Tuesday, students enjoyed a highly entertaining and motivating presentation on the Power of Persistence. Photo taken from Mrs. Wallace's blog.

A reminder to students that we will have our dictée, as usual, on Monday.  Our words are related to nature and Spring.

Due to bus cancellations, we had a smaller than usual group on Thursday and Friday.  This gave us the opportunity to have small group, and one on one instruction in areas of need, as well as spend some time putting our social skills to use playing games.

Playing Kakerlaken Poker - a bluffing game

Playing Dominion - a card game that plays like a boardgame

Playing Ticket to Ride

Playing Werewolves of Miller's Hollow

More Werewolves

We had time for extra art!  Students were able to complete a self-portrait on canvas, using acrylics.  They chose one primary colour, from which they mixed shades to paint their portrait.

We also had time to watch a docudrama  linked to our Ancient Civilizations' unit: Pompeii: The Last Day.

Some students had time to complete their Earth Day collage and Earth Day Report Card.

I would say that we had a pretty relaxing end to our week.
