The Week at a Glance

Happy International Woman's Day!

What a week!  As you can see from our previous posts, we have been really busy in room 205.

In Drama this week, students presented their French play, Boucle d'Or et les trois ours. But, what students really enjoyed was their introduction to La ligue d'imporsivation (Improvs).  We had a splendid time!  I saw a side of Sabrina I never knew existed!

On Monday, students began their oral presentations in French.  We have many wonderful public speakers - even in their second language.  Their presentations were based on our daily, scripted, conversation from the month of February.  Topics included Valentine's Day, Family Day, Carnaval de Québec and Winter activities.

On Wednesday, we celebrate Dr. Seuss Day at Admiral by reading Dr. Seuss books and by dressing up as our favourite Dr. Seuss character.  Mme Bosse shared her French Dr. Seuss book with us.

On Thursday for Tea Time, we enjoyed a wonderful Egyptian Licorice tea, courtesy of Lane and his family, and we continued reading from our novel, The Egyptian Game.  We have extra copies of the book for students who prefer reading along, rather than listening to the read aloud.

Almost all students handed in all their assignments: persuasive essay - which I stay up late assessing so I could return to students before the Break and I forgot to hand out today! - Carnaval project, and Le congé de mars comic strip.

This morning, we completed our unit in Health,Making Healthy Choices, by analyzing food labels, nutritional values, serving size, and daily values to make choices about which product was the healthier choice.

Today in Math, we celebrated our learning of 3-D Geometry with the following culminating activity - it was the most fun students had in Math all week!

The following are pictures of students completely focused and on task.

Mrs. Stormes stopping by to support our Math class - what would we do without her?

It was a very loud, very messy, but a very productive afternoon.

Each group successfully completed the task!  But if that wasn't exciting enough for one day, it was also Beach Day at Admiral, complete with hula hoop contests and limbo contests!

In Social Studies, some of my Eager Beavers have already completed their current assignment.  Students are making a personal timeline to help them better understand the concept of timelines for studying Ancient Civilizations.  Here are a few samples.

Well, what a week!  Now for our well-earned break!

Have a safe and wonderful March Break!

P.S.  I am still updating previous posts with student work as it gets handed in, so remember to revisit if you have not seen your work yet.

P.P.S.  We need your help.  If you have any empty coffee cream bottles, we need them for an upcoming art project.  Please wash them and send them into school, as Bridget and I are drinking more than our fair share of cream in our morning beverages. We need these bottles to make Ancient Egyptian canopic jars.

One final thought....

...students were very interested in eating "un souper de cabane à sucre" (Sugar Shack Meal)..they really enjoyed the fêves au lard with maple syrup that I brought in last Friday, so if you are interested, Cafe Chartreuse is hosting a Cabane à surcre meal next week.  See details by clicking on the link. I have taken my class to Cafe Chartreuse a few times in the past for an evening of folk music and a delicious traditional French Sugar Shack meal, complete with fiddlers, dancing, and signing.  It was wonderful!
