A Snowy December Week Didn't Stop Us!

We began the week with our presentations of Boucle d'Or et les trois ours en français!

In French, we are also learning le vocabulaire d'hiver et de Noël to help us better communicate our ideas and activities this month.  En lecture, we continue to read Le voleur, a little mystery that will help strengthen our reading skills, build our vocabulary, and allow for short written responses.

En sciences sociales on continue notre étude du gouvernement, les cityoens et leurs responsabilités respectives, ainsi que les droits des citoyens canadiens.  This week we analyses newspapter articles, looking critically at the issues, the solutions and the levels of government, or citizens, involved in the decision making or problem solving.

Here are some of the most popular articles:

Since we had a Snowday (this word should be in a Canadian, dictionary!), we will share our analysis of these articles next week.

In math, we have begun a new unit!  Unit 5: Measurement!

We began the week with metric conversions, then moved on to perimeter.  Tomorrow we will begin working with area, and hopefully end the week with volume before Christmas break.

As you can see below, students were incredibly successful with their Exit Ticket!

This group introduced the idea of using a chart to find the answer.  Although they did not have time to revise their work once they noticed they were off track, their idea of using a chart was the best way to prove that all possibilities were found.

Once we Banshoed some of the solutions and discussed the strategies, students were ready to try a similar problem independently.  Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of their work.  If I remember tomorrow before handing their exit tickets back, I will snap a few pictures and add them to the blog.
